it's true that HP dosn't provide drivers and support for windows XP on the consumer notebook but for some of the peripherals you may find the drivers.
A good way to discover which driver you need it to know the "hardware ID" of the peripherals missing the driver.
Here a list of them, for dv4, dv5 and dv7 Intel based.
1) chipset intel
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2930&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_03\3&B1B FB68&0&FB
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39316.exe
2) network controller (Wireless INTEL)
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086&REV_00\4&2A1 7DF6C&0&00E2
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40001-40500/sp40120.exe
3) controller Ethernet Realtek 8168
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_02\4&22A B4E2B&0&00E3
ftp://202.65.194.212/cn/nic/PCIE_Install_5686(installshield%2012_1.16)_0219.zi p
PCIE_Install_5686(installshield 12_1.16)_0219.zip
4a) driver Nvidia 178.24 , version 6.14.11.7824
testated with
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_06E8 Nvidia geForce 9200 GE
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427 Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS ,
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0425 Nvidia GeForce 8600 GS
download from Nvidia link: http://it.download.nvidia.com/Windows/178.24/178.24_geforce_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe
then this file nv4_disp.inf from http://www.filecloud.com/files/category.php?user_category_id=283210
execute 178.24_geforce_winxp_32bit_international_whql.exe, it creates the folder C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS
You will get an installation error.
Copy the file nv4_disp.inf taken from filecloud to folder C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS ,
then go to C:\NVIDIA\Win2k\178.24\IS and execute setup.exe
5) most difficult part:
PCI Device
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_03\3&B1B FB68&0&D8
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33867.exe
create a file start_audio.bat, write on it such string devcon.exe restart "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E" , then save it C:\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
or download it from here http://www.filecloud.com/files/category.php?user_category_id=283210
download the file DEVCON.EXE from microsoft. http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/f/11f7dd10-272d-4cd2-896f-9ce67f3e0240/devcon.exe
Unzip the file, you have two folders copy the i386\devcon.exe into c:\windows
6) Unknow peripheral HP 3D Drive Guard

ReplyDeletetnx
I have Intel based dv8 i7 and have down graded from Win7 to XP. I am stuck on the fingerprint driver and blue tooth and the IDT HDA CODEC won't start has error 10. Will the above drivers work for my laptop? Thx.
ReplyDeleteG'day;
ReplyDeleteI have dual booted my dv8t that came with Win7 with XP SP3. I have been installing all the drivers but having trouble mainly with the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC; XP finds it but it can't start. The Nvidia drivers install OK but they are probably reliant on the IDT HDA being up and running.
Any ideas. Thanks for your help.
Also; need the XP driver for the finger print reader as well; as I have two unknown devices in my device manager and I would say that the FP reader will be one of them.
