Giving up on Vista? Here's how to downgrade vista to XP

If you get the following error while booting from xp cd, you need to burn a new xp cd as give below.

ERROR:
"A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SUT DOWN TO PREVENT
DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER
IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU'VE SEEN THIS ERROR SCREEN RESTART YOUR
COMPUTER. IF THIS SCREEN APPEARS AGAIN FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
CHECK FOR VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER. REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARD
DRIVES OR HARD DRIVE CONTROLLERS. CHECK YOUR HARD DRIVE TO MAKES SURE IT
IS PROPERLY CONFIGURED AND TERMINATED.
RUN CHKDISK /F TO CHECK FOR HARDDRIVE CORRUPTION, AND THEN RESTART YOUR
COMPUTER.
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0X00000000) "

Steps to do:

1. First of all it is absolutely necessary to create Vista Recovery DVDs!!!!

2. be sure there are the XP device drivers

3. Download the drivers from hp for intel (sp37005.exe) or amd (sp39719.exe)( Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver or AMD SATA AHCI Controller Driver )

4. Create a “SATA” directory and unpack the driver file downloaded from hp in it..
If the “SATA” file, is an EXE file, unpack it with the command:

START -> RUN -> CMD

C:\sata\FILENAME.exe -a -a -pc:\sata

This command is a sort of fictional installation that does not write anything on the system.

5. Download and install NLITE

6. Create a “XP” directory and (copy) unpack the ISO cd within the same directory.

7.Create also a “XPnLite” directory, where NLITE will create a bootable modified XP image.

8. Start N-lite

9. Browse and search the “I386″ directory.

10. Choosing a destination directory

11. Click on NEXT and in Task Selection, choose Drivers and Bootable ISO

click on NEXT

12. In “Driver“ tag, click on “insert” and choose “multiple drivers” and point to where you have unpacked the drivers for inyel or amd. (example c:\sata\drivers)
(Be careful to the driver path. Choose the correct driver If the PC architecture is a 64 bit Architecture, you must point to 64 bit drivers (example: C:\sata\Driver64)

Choose “ALL” to confirm the inclusion of driver and when the list of driver it appears, choose “Driver Textmode”. Hold on the CTRL button and select them all.

13. Press OK

14. When Nlite has developed and calculated the size of the new Iso, press Next

15 Press “Create ISO” and point to the “C:\XPnlite” directory.

16. When NLITE has finished to create the new SATA-drivers-implemented ISO, burn the iso with the nero or poweriso.

17. Reboot the system using the newly made windows XP cd.

it's true that HP dosn't provide drivers and support for windows XP on the consumer notebook but for some of the peripherals you may find the drivers.

A good way to discover which driver you need it to know the "hardware ID" of the peripherals missing the driver.

We're always looking to improve search on okrut, which is why we just launched some new search filters that we hope will further aid your searches. Here's how search filters work:

Say you are trying to find a person you met yesterday, but you can't remember his or her complete name. As always, you can type in what you remember of the person's name and hit search. After that, you can refine your search by applying the filters that appear on the right side of our search page. You might start by restricting the search to the languages you speak or the country you're in. To get even better results, try restricting by gender, age, relationship status, children or sexual preference. The more filters you combine, the more specific results will you get.

I tried images.orkut.com which too redirected to m.orkut.com. Finally, i resorted to the last option and it worked. I could surf the no-mobile-version of orkut from my mobile.

We know that for visually impaired users, it can be difficult to navigate through orkut using a mouse to point and click on various links. In order to make orkut more accessible to all users, we recently added accesskeys for some commonly used links on orkut. With accesskeys, you no longer need to click your mouse to visit different pages on orkut. For example, if you are using IE, when you press "alt + s", the focus is moved to the "Scrapbook" link at the top of the page. Pressing "enter" will then take you to your scrapbook page.

Please note that different browsers use different control key combinations for accesskeys. On Netscape Navigator and Mozilla Firefox, "alt + shift + s" should take you directly to your scrapbook (you don't need to press "enter"). Make sure you do that as soon as possible because this hack requires the backup profile to be the member of the community for 4-7 days.

If for any reason your original profile gets deleted, make sure you rush to your abandoned community as soon as possible.
Now, if you are the member of that community since 4-7 days, you'll see a become moderator option.

Once you become The Moderator, You'll See a Become Owner option.

Photos have long been a popular feature of orkut, which is why we have engineers working full-time to make it easier for you to upload, share and browse photos on orkut. Recently, we increased our photo capacity so you can upload as many as you like, and we made it easier for you to organize your photos once you have them in your orkut albums. This week, we launched photo tagging so that you can label your orkut friends in your photos.

Here's how it works: when you're browsing your own or your friends' photo albums, simply click the "add tag" link below the bottom right corner of the photo. Then click your mouse over the friend you would like to label. A box will appear, prompting you to type your friend's name. As you type, the field will auto-complete so you can easily find the orkut friend you'd like to tag. When you browse tagged photos, hover over the name of a person to see which person he or she is in the photo. If you click, you'll be taken to his or her profile.

When one of your friends tags you in a photo, you'll receive an email. If you'd like to turn this notification off, you can go to notification settings. If a friend tags you in a photo and it's not you (or just a bad photo of you!), you can click on the trash can next to your name and delete the tag for good. The photo owner also has permission to delete any tags on his or her photos. If you'd rather not let your friends tag your photos, or be tagged in any photos, you can disable the feature completely in your privacy settings. Many people have already begun tagging their photos. Communities on orkut come in all shapes and sizes. Large, open communities are great for meeting new people and getting news on topics you care about, while smaller ones help you keep in touch with friends and people from your school or work. When we launched private communities several months ago , we let community owners decide who could access content in their communities -- all orkut users or just members of those specific communities. Recently, we added additional functionality to let you create communities that are only open to people who share your email domain. For example, I have an @google.com email address for work, so I could create a community that is only accessible to those who also have @google.com email addresses.

How does it work? First, enter the email address for the domain you share with your classmates or colleagues into the contacts tab of your profile. When creating a new community, simply choose the "validated - email validation required" option, then select the domain from the drop down box. Anyone who wants to join the community will first be required to validate his or her email address from that domain before being allowed to join.

2. Type the text "this app can break" (without quotes)
3. Save the file

Notepad displays seemingly-random Chinese characters, or boxes if your default Notepad font doesn't support those characters.

t's not an Easter egg (even though it seems like a funny one), and as it turns out, Notepad writes the file correctly. It's only when Notepad reads the file back in that it seems to lose its mind.

Since photo sharing is one of the most popular ways to use orkut, we are constantly working to add more functionality to our photo albums. Last week we launched a feature that lets you rearrange your photos within an album, and we announced that you can upload up to 10,000 pictures to orkut (have you taken full advantage yet?). Today, we're happy to share that you can now comment on your friends' photos. Captions have always been a fun way to tell your friends what's going on in your pictures, but sometimes when you're looking at others' photos, you want to respond to the captions right there rather than sending a scrap or message. To post a comment, simply type your response in the comments section below the photo and hit "post comment." Your comment will show up below your friend's photo. If you decide afterwards that you'd like to take down your comment, you (or the photo owner) can always remove it.

BuboMe is a photo application that lets you pimp your photos or your orkut friends' photos by adding themes and speech bubbles.

Create a Bubo

With a single click, your orkut profile photo is uploaded to the app and you are ready to pimp it by selecting a theme. There are nine categories with hundreds of themes to choose from. You can choose to be a superhero, a celebrity or even a cartoon character.

Drag thought or speech bubbles into your photo, type in the content of the bubble and then save it as a new bubo. When you are done, your new photos are displayed on your orkut profile as a slideshow.

The BuboMe photo app is currently available in 5 languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese. If you have friends who are not on orkut, they can still create a bubo by going to BuboMe.com.

Since orkut first launched back in 2004, the site has had a soothing, blue color scheme that we've all come to know and love. When we redesigned the interface last August, we switched up some elements but kept the blue theme. While some of you love it, we've also heard that others would like more freedom to customize your orkut experiences, just as you customize your profiles. Now you can make your orkut profile reflect your mood for the day or change the theme to match the current season.

We recently began rolling out 12 themes to a percentage of our Indian users, and these themes should be available to all Indian users by the end of this week. We're currently testing this new feature, and if we hear that users like it, we plan to roll it out for everyone on orkut and continue offering more new themes.

How do you switch your theme? Click on the "change theme" link in the top navigation bar or go to the"themes" tab in the edit profile page. You'll then see our gallery page, where you can check out all the themes that are currently available. Alternatively, if you visit a friend's profile page and he has a theme you like, click on "get this theme." When you select a theme, all your orkut pages will have this theme: your profile, scrapbook, photos, videos, etc. When other users visit your profile or other pages, they will see your selected theme.

There is also an option to disable all themes in case you'd rather navigate orkut all in blue. There are times when you access orkut from slow speed connections, and images on the site may take longer than usual to download. On those days, it may help to disable themes completely so that your friends' profiles load more quickly.

ReadyBoost Speed Up Windows Vista

One very cool feature of Windows Vista – especially for machines not natively equipped with the kind of horsepower to fully enjoy the rich visuals of Windows Presentation Foundation (Avalon) applications is ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost enables you to plug a USB key into your machine and have Windows Vista use it as memory. I hadn’t actually used this myself, but had heard of it long ago. When a reader emailed me asking if this was an urban legend, I decided to check it out for myself and was very impressed with how easy and seamless the process is.
Installing/Configuring the USB Key as Memory
First I took a standard USB 2.0 key (I’ll list the prerequisites shortly) and plugged it into my machine. I’m running Windows Vista Beta 2, Build 5346, but I’m told that this works with the latest CTP made available to beta and TAP members as well as MSDN Subscribers. Upon plugging the USB key into my computer, I was greeted with the standard "AutoPlay" dialog box asking how I wanted to the operating system to treat the USB key. However, with ReadyBoost I get the additional option (circled below in the screen capture) of using the key to "speed up my system".
Once I click the "Speed up my system" option, the Properties dialog box for the device is displayed where I can specify to start/stop ReadyBoost usage of the device and how much space I want used as a memory cache. (Actually, according to one of the Product Specialists here, this space is used more as a flash-based page file than true RAM, but the impact is that the more space you choose here, the more benefit you’ll get in terms of overall system performance.)
(In order to return to this dialog box, open the Computer window, right-click the drive (F: in this case) and select Properties. From there, click the Memory tab (as shown in the previous screen capture and adjust the settings as needed).
For the inquisitive, opening the drive in an Explorer window reveals that ReadyBoost has created a cache file of the specified size.

Add Tags To Your Photos on Orkut

This very cool new orkut feature will allow you to add tags to your photos. Friends can tag each other friends in group photos. Each profile has a new 'photos of me' section which will inform them if any of their friends have tagged them.

Choose any photograph you uploaded.

You will find an add tag option just below the photo
click on the 'add tag' option and select the portion of the image you want to associate.

After, selecting the portion, enter the name of your friend whom you have tagged.
Your job is over
Repeat if you want to select some other portion of the image and add more tags.

Now, the person whom you tagged will be notified by a new section in his profile - photos of me

He he clicks photos of me, he will be taken to the picture you added tags on.
Thus, you need not visit any of your friends profile to see if they have uploaded your photo in their albums. Great isn't it?

Orkut 12 themes to a percentage of Indian users

Since its launch back in 2004, the Orkut has had a blue color scheme, and so users who wanted to be more colorful and expressive had to go for Greasemonkey or Firefox addons. But now respecting the popular demand the Orkut rolled out 12 themes to a percentage of Indian users. Now we can make our orkut profile reflect our mood for the day or change the theme to match the current season .

The Orkut is currently testing this new feature with a percentage of Indian Orkut users, and these themes should be available to all Indian users by the end of this week. Orkut is planning to roll it out for everyone on orkut with more new themes :-)

How To Apply New Theme -
Click on the "change theme" link in the top navigation bar or go to the"themes" tab in the edit profile page. You'll then see our gallery page, where you can check out all the themes that are currently available. Alternatively, if you visit a friend's profile page and he has a theme you like, click on "get this theme." When you select a theme, all your orkut pages will have this theme: your profile, scrapbook, photos, videos, etc.

Five Firefox Tips You May Not Know About

The thing I like best about Firefox is that just when you think you know everything there is to know about the browser, something new comes along and surprises you.

I discovered five new Firefox tips today. Maybe these are old hat and you know them already. Or maybe like me, you had no idea these could be done.

1. Quick search - without going to a search engine first.

Are you reading a website and you subsequently discover a word or phrase that you want to put into a search engine? Up until now, I would just open a new tab, type in the URL for Google and manually type the word or phrase in. But it seems there is a faster easier way.

Just highlight the word or phrase with your mouse’s left-click button. Then drag the highlighted text into the address bar in the browser. Then press “enter”. Firefox will now perform a “Are you feeling lucky?” Google search for you.

2. Delete visited URL’s

When you drop down the box underneath the address bar, you can see your recent browsing history. But what if you want to remove one URL from that list? Maybe you’ve been looking at a naughty site and you don’t want your girfriend to know? Or maybe you’ve been shopping for your loved one online and you want to keep it a secret?

Just drop down the URL box, highlight the URL you want to zap then press the “delete” button on your keyboard. The URL will then be removed from the list.

3. Navigate to browser tabs using the keyboard

Instead of using the mouse to click on a tab, why not use the keyboard instead? Pressing CTRL + TAB together will bounce you from tab to tab, starting from the one in the far left and working its way along. Or if you want to go to a specifc tab straight away, you can do that too. CTRL + 2 will take you directly to the second tab from the left. CTRL + 5 will take you to the fifth tab from the left.

4. Start downloads instantly

Instead of right-clicking on a download link, choosing “save to target” and pressing enter, just drag the download link to the “downloads icon” in the toolbar. The download will start automatically.

5. Grab files off webpages, even protected webpages

Have you ever wanted a picture, file or video off a webpage but you can’t, because it’s been protected? Just right-click on the page, choose “View Page Info” then the “media” tab. Find the file you’re looking for from the list and click on “save”. (note : this doesn’t work for everything but I have still had a pretty high success rate nonetheless).

Fetch only pages that you click

In the default,Firefox will pre-download the pages behind the links it thinks you MIGHT click. I think this is just useless bandwidth usage. How you stop that in two simple steps? Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Type “network.prefetch” in the filter field, It should be set to TRUE. Double click it, and it will turn to false.

Create a user.js file.

Creating a user.js file can really speed up your browsing. You’ll need to create a text file named user.js in your profile folder (see this to find out where the profile folder is) and see this example user.js file that you can modify. Created by techlifeweb.com, this example explains some of the things you can do in its comments.

Limit the RAM usage

Although it’s not taking up THAT much memory as other browser, shortly, it still does. But you have a way to control that. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Filter up your search after “browser.cache” and select browser.cache.memory.capacity from the remaining options.You have to adjust the value depending on the amount of RAM memory you have installed. For RAM sizes between 512MB and 1GB, start with 15000. For RAM sizes between 128MB and 512M, try 5000, and you will be happy of the result.

Reduce RAM usage further for when Firefox is minimized.

This setting will move Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it, taking up much less memory. select New and click Boolean. A box will appear and you will have to enter config.trim_on_minimize as value. The boolean value be set it to TRUE in the next screen, and that’s it.

Content Tokenizing Time

Mozilla applications will regularly render what has been received to that point. This option controls the maximum amount of time the application will be unresponsive while rendering pages. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu. Enter content.max.tokenizing.time in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 2250000 and click OK.

Content Notify Interval

This option sets the minimum amount of time to wait between reflows.

Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
Type content.notify.interval in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.

To participate in this you can register on their site to be notified when it is released and then download it within 24 hours .We can imagine the performance of Firefox 3 by comparing it with its First release candidate.

The first release candidate of Firefox 3 have an improved performance, less memory leaks, a revamped interface and some very interesting new features as compare to Firefox 2.Some cool features of Firefox 3 are:

Incredible Useful Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts

As my methods for search increase my browsing productivity continues, I have come across some excellent keyboard shortcuts for Firefox.

1: Automatically complete .org and .net addresses

Yes, we know that if we type ‘google’ in the address bar and press Ctrl+Enter it directly goes to www.google.com . But what about .org and .net addresses? .

In Firefox, Shift+Enter takes you to .net

And Ctrl+Shift+Enter takes you to .org addresses automatically .

You can just write problogger and just press Enter it will take automatically to problogger.net

2: Alt + D or F6

You can use this to navigate directly to the browser address bar of firefox. Very useful.

3: Ctrl+T and Ctrl+Shift+T

Ctrl+T helps you to open a new tab and Ctrl+Shift+T reopens the last closed tab.
This comes quite handy in case you accidently close a tab. Another way to do this would be go to History -> Recently closed tabs.

4: Alt+Enter

This can be an extremely useful shortcut. It automatically opens a website in another tab when you highlight it in the autocomplete list. For example you want to go to Facebook and you start typing www.face…, in the address bar and it starts showing the list below. You just need to use the down arrow key to highlight the selection (facebook.com in this case ) and press Alt+Enter so that it opens in a new tab.

5: Use of Delete Key

The Delete key can be pretty useful because it helps you delete specific addresses in browser history or autocomplete forms. For example in the diagram below, when I type ‘allin’ in address bar I get 3 entries . If I want to delete the 2nd entry from autocomplete history, I’ll just point to it and press Delete key. Simple, isn’t it .

6: Ctrl+Tab

Ctrl+tab helps you to navigate between different firefox tabs quite easily.

7: Ctrl+[1,2….9]

Ctrl+tab can help you navigate alternate tabs but if you are a heavy tab user like me and want to go to a specific tab then just use Ctrl+corresponding tab number. Ex:To go to the 3rd tab use Ctrl+3.

8: Spacebar and Shift+Spacebar OR PageDown and PageUp

Spacebar or PageDown key scrolls down the webpage you’re on and Shift+Spacebar or PageUp scrolls up the webpage you’re on.

9: The Middle Mouse Button

This is not a keyboard shortcut but it is an excellent shortcut. Just point to a link anywhere on a webpage and press the middle mouse(scroll) button. It opens the page in a new tab .Also middle-clicking a tab with the mouse closes the tab.

10:/ Button

This (backslash) if you hit that once will bring a quick find option. We dont have to puch CTRL+F for searching.

Making usb flash drive bootable

Michael Y from forum has reminded me about booting computer using USB flash drive. I’ve heard about that long ago and I know it’s possible but then I’ve never tried it myself. That’s because so far I’ve been fixing computers that has a working CD/DVD-Rom. Even IF there is a non functional CD/DVD-ROM, I can dismantle a working CD/DVD-ROM from another computer. However, I figured that it’s good to learn and know how to make your USB flash drive bootable. You can boot up Hiren’s BootCD from USB flash drive, install Windows using USB flash drive and even resetting Windows account password using Windows Key. See how useful it is to know how to make your USB flash drive bootable?

We all know that we can use floppy drive and CD/DVD to boot up your computer. There are also ISO files that contains boot image that when you burn it with Nero, the media disc will be bootable.

Here are some question that I ask myself before starting to do research on how to make a USB flash drive bootable.

1. Is it possible to copy floppy boot image to USB flash drive?

2. Is it possible to copy CD/DVD boot image to USB flash drive?

3. Is it possible to extract boot image from ISO files and write it to USB flash drive?

4. How to configure BIOS to boot with USB flash drive?

5. Can all USB flash drive be made bootable?

I am glad to have found all the answers to the question above.
1. Is it possible to copy floppy boot image to USB flash drive?

It is possible possible to copy floppy boot image to a USB flash drive by using BootDisk2BootStick. Just select the source (floppy) and destination (USB flash drive) and click the Start button.

2. Is it possible to copy CD/DVD boot image to USB flash drive?

It is possible but not with BootDisk2BootStick because it doesn’t support CD/DVD. You need to extract the boot image from the CD/DVD first, and then write the boot image that you’ve extracted to the USB flash drive.

- Extract boot image from CD/DVD using BBIE by Bart Lagerweij

Command to extract CD/DVD boot image using BBIE is “bbie D:” without the quotes and assuming D: is your CD/DVD drive.

Command to write boot image file to USB flash drive is “MKBT -x image1.bin e:” without the quotes. image1.bin is the filename of the boot image and e: is the drive letter of your USB flash drive.

3. Is it possible to extract boot image from ISO files and write it to USB flash drive?

Yes it is possible. The steps to extract boot image from ISO file is very similar to the answer on question number 2.

Use BBIE to extract boot image from ISO with the command “bbie filename.iso“. Then write the boot image to USB flash drive using MKBT with the command “mkbt -x image1.bin e:”

4. How to configure BIOS to boot with USB flash drive?

Different BIOS has different way to setting your USB flash drive as a boot device. If your system can’t support it, try checking for BIOS update. Also, not all computers can get in to BIOS by pressing the “Del” key. Some are F2 and some are F10. If you’re unsure, it will be displayed on the screen during the initial boot of a computer. If it’s too fast, you can hit the Pause/Break key.

For computer that uses AMI BIOS.

Option 1;

Go to “Feature Setup” and enable these options: “USB Function Support”, “USB Function For DOS” and “ThumbDrive for DOS”.

Go to “Advanced Setup” and set the “1st Boot Device” to “USB RMD-FDD”.

Reboot the PC and it now should boot from the USB flash drive.

Option 2;

Go to “USB Mass Storage Device Configuration”, select “Emulation Type” and set it to “Harddisk”.

Go to the “Boot Menu” and set the “1st boot device” to “USB-Stick”.

No you can exit the BIOS, saving the changes. If this does not seem to work, then you can try (it sometimes seems to work) setting the “Emulation Type” value to “Floppy” or “Forced FDD”.

For computer that uses PHOENIX/AWARD BIOS.

Go to “Advanced BIOS Features”, then to the “1st Boot device” and set it to “USB-ZIP”.

Some newer motherboard supports Boot Order by pressing the F8 (keys might vary). I have a MSI 945P Platinum board and it is using Phoenix BIOS, Revision 6. At first I wasn’t able to boot up my USB flash drive but later I found out that I need to go to the Boot Order screen and select “Hard Disk” and hit enter. It will then give me a list of Hard Drives. My Kingston USB flash drive is listed as USB-HDD0.

For computer that uses Generic BIOS.

If your BIOS is not in the list above, or the settings do not seem to work with your PC, then you can try this:

- Go into the BIOS

- Go to the page that determines the boot order (usually called “Advanced Setup”, “Boot options”, or “Feature Setup”)

- Try all USB drive variants. Start with “USB ZIP”, then “USB FDD”, “USB HDD “, etc.

5. Can all USB flash drive be made bootable?

I don’t have a 100% sure answer for this question but I’ve tested it on 3 different types of USB flash drives and all can be made bootable. The brands are Kingston, PenDrive and Corsair. In my opinion, you should be more concern about whether your motherboard supports booting from USB flash drive rather than having a USB flash drive that can boot.

You can test your USB flash drive whether it is bootable or not by using a memory testing tool called USBTest created by PenDriveLinux. Just download, extract the files to your USB flash drive and run makeboot.bat. Configure your BIOS to boot up with the USB flash drive. If you see a white background with a USB connector picture and some text that says “The installed program can be used to check your system memory for problems…”, that means your USB flash drive is bootable and your system is capable of booting from a USB flash drive.

This concludes my research on making USB flash drive bootable. Michael Y’s question was he wanted to reset Windows password using DreamPack_PL but his CD/DVD drive is not working. I’ve tried to extract DreamPack_PL boot image and write it to my USB flash drive but it couldn’t be booted up while I have no problems with other ISO. There might be something wrong or different with DreamPack_PL’s boot image that is causing BBIE not to extract the boot image properly. A better tool to reset Windows user account password is Windows Key. You can also load additional drivers to unlock SCSI/RAID/SATA hard drive which DreamPack_PL can’t do.

Windows Key Enterprise cost US$295 and I wonder who actually buys them? But Team ARN has already released a retail version and serial number (LostPassword.Passware.Kit.Enterprise.v8.1.2670.Retail-ARN) for Passware Kit which contains Windows Key Enterprise.

Making Greasemonkey scripts work again for Indian and Brazilian Orkut Users

Sometimes you like some song and you want to hear it again, but you can't as you don't have that song. More worse thing can be that you can't even download it from the internet since you don't know the artist name nor the album name not even the title.

Now to solve this problem there is a cool piece of software named Tunatic that can hear a song and then identify the artist’s name and the song’s title. It’s available for both Windows and Mac OS X, and best of all, it’s free! Tunatic is the very first song search engine based on sound for your computer. All you need is a microphone and Internet access.

How does this work? When you click Tunatic's ‘search’ button, Tunatic transmits the song's features to the Tunatic server. The server searches its database and returns the matching song.

Recover Deleted Photo Using Thumbs.db File

Sometimes due to our carelessness, we might accidentally delete some important digital photos. That might be the only copy of your important and memorable photos such as your wedding or graduation photos, travel snapshots, naked photos of your boyfriend when he was three, etc. Is there any way to recover your digital photos or are there any recovery tools to rectify your carelessness and get back the deleted photos? There are various ways to recover your invaluable possessions. Amongst them, one of the recovery methods is via Thumbs.db file.

Thumbs.db file is a database file that stores a cache for Windows Explorer’s thumbnail view. Windows keeps thumbnails of miniature graphics files in the Thumbs.db file in each directory that contains pictures or photo in various formats such as PDF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, TIF and HTM. The thumbnail cache improves significantly the speed of displaying thumbnails as new thumbnails need not be created every time the folder is viewed; most importantly, this file can help you to recover your deleted photos.
Thumbs.db is a hidden file and you can only see it when you have enabled “show hidden files and folders”. Go to Windows Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options > View Tab and enable “Show hidden files and folders”. From the View Tab, you also need to make sure that you have turned on the thumbnail caching. Be sure that you don’t check the box next to “Do not cache thumbnails”. By doing the aforesaid, when you use Windows Explorer to view the contents of a folder in “Thumbnail” or “Filmstrip”, Thumbs.db file will be generated and you can use this Thumbs.db file to recover your deleted photos. This is because deleting images from a folder does not remove or erase the thumbnail from the Thumbs.db database cache.
To recover your deleted photos from Thumbs.db, you need to seek assistance from some Thumbnail database viewer programs. These programs will allow you to view thumbnail cache in Thumbs.db files. One of these programs is Thumbs.DB Viewer. Thumbs DB Viewer allows you to open Thumbs.db file and get back the photo or image from the database. Having done that, since Thumbs.db only keep miniature images, the quality of the images recovered from Thumbs.db tends to have lower resolution. You might need to use some photo editor tools to touch up your photo. Thumbs.DB Viewer Version 1.2 is available for free trial.

HOW TO CREAT AN INVISIBLE "HIDDEN" DRIVE IN WINDOWS

You’ve probably read a bunch of posts on how to create hidden folders, secure folders, locked folders, etc, etc in Windows on many occasions! Hell, one of the most popular articles on this blog is How to create a secure and locked folder in Windows XP. However, hiding a folder is a tricky proposition and usually doesn’t work well unless you use something like Truecrypt.

But there’s yet ANOTHER way you can hide your “private” files using a nifty little registry hack that will completely remove an entire drive from your computer. The drive will not show up in My Computer, will not be accessible from the command prompt, and won’t even show up in Safe Mode!

Ok, so here’s how to implement the hack: first off, BACK UP your registry as this requires adding a key to the registry. Once you’ve backed up your registry, open the registry editor by clicking on Start, Run and typing in regedit.

Now navigate to the following registry hive shown below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer

Right-click on Explorer and choose New and then DWORD Value.

Name the new value NoDrives and then double click on it to open the properties dialog box. Click on Decimal for the Base unit.

Type in one of the following values depending on that drive letter you want to hide.

A: 1B: 2C: 4

D: 8

E: 16

F: 32G: 64H: 128

I: 256

J: 512

K: 1024L: 2048M: 4096

N: 8192

O: 16384

P: 32768Q: 65536R: 131072

S: 262144

T: 524288

U: 1048576V: 2097152W: 4194304

Z: 33554432All: 67108863

If you want to hide drive E, just type in the value 16. The really cool thing about this trick is the fact that you can hide multiple drives by adding the numbers of the particular drives together. For example, if you want to hide drive E and drive G, you would type in the number 80, which is 64 + 16.

Restart your computer and your drive will now be hidden! Trying to hide your system drive (C) will not work as Windows has to use this drive to run correctly, so don’t store your secret files there!

When you want to get your drives back, change the value of NoDrives to 0 or simply delete the value altogether. Of course, having to do this everyday can be a pain, so if you’re up for it, you can try and write a registry file that will allow you to insert and delete the value by just double-clicking a file.

This trick also works for mapped drives, so if you want to hide mapped drives, you can do it this way (though it might just be easier to disconnect a mapped drive).

2. Another software is Log Monitor below are the steps to configure it.Log Monitor is a freeware that has many usages. I try to go to the author page but i can’t understand the language, but i think most probably the author is a Russian. After playing with this application, i found that it can actually lock our computer and prevent others to login.

Step 1

You need to create a .log file in your USB flash drive. The file name can be anything and you can left your content blank. But, my advise is try to type something and make sure no people can get this file. I had create an example log file and will provide the download address at the end of this article.
Step 2

Go to Monitoring and choose Add File:

Now, choose the log file that you created, and change the Do Action’s option to If the file has been changed. Please check the Perform action if monitored file does not exist so that this application can lock your computer when you unplug your USB flash drive.

Step 3

Now, go to Actions tab and choose New -> Execute Program. Fill in the parametes below:

Command: C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe
Parameters: user32.dll,LockWorkStation
Start in: C:\Windows\system32

Step 4

This is the final step. Go back to the main page and choose Options -> Program Options. At the General tab, check Minimize on start if you want Log Monitor minimize to system try when startup. Next, check the Start on user logon. Be careful, remember to make 1 copy of your log file if you check this. After you check this option, Log Monitor will automatically launch after you login. If you lost the log file, means you can’t control your computer anymore. After everything done, save the settings to your system and try unplug your USB. Your computer will be locked immediately!
